Public Awareness Trips
Raise Issues, Offer Opportunities

Over 1,100 persons attended Inspection Barge trips on the Ouachita-Black Rivers sponsored by the Ouachita River Valley Association; Vicksburg District, Corps of Engineers, and local entities during the period September 2 – September 17, 2010.

River tours were conducted out of Jonesville, West Monroe, and Sterlington in Louisiana and out of Crossett and Camden in Arkansas.

The purpose was to take community leaders, industry officials, state legislators, state and local agencies, local citizens, etc., on the river for them to observe firsthand the valuable water resources that the Ouachita-Black Rivers provide.

Information briefings were conducted by the Corps of Engineers and the Ouachita River Valley Association on current activities in the Basin. Local officials provided a barbecue or other type meal for participants during the river trip.
